“Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context – a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan.” ~ Eliel Saarinen
Saarinen’s philosophy deeply influenced my approach in creating “Unwinding Want.” I envisioned the work not merely as a collection of words on a page, or voice in a listener’s ear, but as an evolving entity that would take root in people’s minds, growing into feelings, thoughts, and actions that could shape perspectives and, ultimately, lives.
Each format—printed book, Kindle, and Audiobook—presented its own design challenges. For the printed page, I focused on typography, layout, and the tactile experience of holding the book. The physical form demanded attention to details like size, font choice, spacing, and page breaks, all contributing to the reader’s engagement with the ideas.
The Kindle version necessitated a different approach. I had to consider how readers might interact with its mutable digital format. Unlike a PDF document, the ability to change fonts and the absence of physical pages required rethinking how to present transitions and convey a sense of progress through the work.
The Audiobook presented its own set of opportunities and challenges. The tone, pacing, and inflection of my voice became crucial elements in emphasizing key points and giving listeners time to reflect.1
Despite these varied approaches, my intent remained consistent: to create an experience that resonates deeply, encouraging readers and listeners alike to unwind their wants and confront their most ingrained beliefs.
While each format offers unique strengths, I believe the printed book might hold the greatest potential for impact. It allows readers to engage with the work at their own pace, experiencing the natural pauses and breaks as intended while fostering an intimate internal dialogue.
Ultimately, “Unwinding Want” is more than just a book—it’s an idea, a worldview, and a catalyst for change. It invites us to challenge mindless living and redefine what true fulfillment means, steering us towards a more intentional and loving existence.
As I continue to explore ways to extend the reach of this work, your feedback is invaluable. Are there aspects that could be enhanced or clarified? What additional formats or adaptations might deepen its impact? How can I further apply Saarinen’s philosophy to expand the work’s context and influence?
Thank you for your time and insights. I hope you enjoy the book and I really appreciate our relationship.

I was waiting for the audio and was probably among the first to purchase. Like a glass of fine wine, always nice to pair it up with bread and cheese. Hence print version AND audio for me is the way to go. The insights are worth listening to over and over.
